I have seen a great many people who exist in this world, but only a rare few who actually live.
Fear! All of us must have heard this word innumerable times in our lives, isn't it? It's just a four-letter word but its impact on one's life is as big as a war has on its casualties, and as debilitating as an illness in one's body.
The reason I refer to fear as an illusion is because it is not a separate entity, but a byproduct of our own perceptions. One may fear dying, while the other may know that death is the ultimate, inevitable truth and not something to be feared. Hence, our view towards things decides the course of our lives. Nothing that you fear is actually scary, rather it's the way you see it that makes all the difference.
Fear holds us captive. It conditions us and doesn't let us live life to the fullest. No matter what you fear, whether it's about not getting a desired job, losing a loved one, or for that matter of fact, absolutely anything, it's all an illusionary barrier. It was you who created it, it is only you who can break free from it.
If you have a hard time fighting your fear, then here's how you can go about it. To begin with, ask yourself these questions:
What exactly do I fear? (for example- I fear not getting my dream job because if I don't get it, I'll not be happy and life wouldn't be worth living)
Question your beliefs (Where is it written that I cannot be happy without this job? Only in my head. There's no evidence to prove that I must get this job to be happy. That simply would mean that people who don't get their dream jobs aren't happy, but that's clearly not the case. There are so many people who don't get their dream jobs, or in fact rarely get anything they desire, yet they live a great, happy life)
Act against your fear (In this case, go to as many job interviews as you want and if you get rejected, show to yourself how you are still alive and how life is still the same, happy and joyful. Duh!)
There's nothing more painful in the world than not being able to live freely. As Emiliano Zapata once said, "It is better to die on your feet than to live on your knees". There's only one life, make it count. Look fear right into the eye and wait for it to back down first. The most worthwhile journey one would ever live would be to liberate oneself from the clutches of one's own demons. So start your new year by facing life head on instead of caging yourself in a web of fear. Fear is a master illusionist, don't fall victim to it.
